After a one-year absence from Charlotte to make way for the PGA Championship, the Wells Fargo Championship will return to Quail Hollow Club the first weekend of May in 2018.
That’s the tournament’s traditional spot on the PGA Tour schedule, and that will continue at least through 2019. After that, it’s unclear because the PGA Championship is moving from August to May starting in 2019.
The PGA of America isn’t committing yet to a 2019 date, saying only that the PGA Championship would be scheduled “after Mother’s Day.”
When the Wells Fargo is played after 2019 is still to be determined. The tournament’s current contract expires after 2019.
The PGA of America already has said it will return to Charlotte with a future PGA Championship. Based on tremendous hospitality and merchandise sales, Charlotte again demonstrated how well it will support the PGA Tour.
The Wells Fargo was played this year at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington.
