Top-ranked North Carolina took care of business Tuesday night with a 2-0 nonconference men’s soccer victory over William & Mary. North Carolina (5-1) jumped in front by scoring on its first shot, which produced Tyler Engel’s second goal of the year. Omar Holness began the scoring play with a corner kick, Andy Craven gently nudged the ball toward Engel and he deposited the ball past the Tribe goalkeeper.

Pro lacrosse executive Jim McPhilliamy is heading a group that has purchased the franchise rights from the Charlotte Eagles, who have played in USL Pro – soccer’s version of AA baseball – since 1993. The Eagles will switch to the USL’s lower-level Premier Developmental League (PDL).
