Flyers score faster than Lightning

PHILADELPHIA Mike Richards and Jeff Carter scored two goals apiece and rookie David Laliberte and Scott Hartnell also tallied, leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a 6-2 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday.

The Flyers' excitement over their victory was offset by the news that star winger Simon Gagne will miss six to eight weeks. He is scheduled to have hernia and hip surgery today.

ISLANDERS 3, OILERS 1: Brendan Witt posted his first two-goal game in the NHL, forward Doug Weight added two assists and the New York Islanders stretched their winning streak to a season-high four games with a home victory against Edmonton.
