CULOWHEE Terrell Hudgins broke Jerry Rice's all-time Football Championship Subdivision record for receiving yards, and Brandon Newsome ran for 143 yards and four touchdowns Saturday as Elon beat Western Carolina 42-17.
Hudgins caught eight passes for 153 yards and a touchdown, setting the FCS record with 4,812 yards. Rice had 4,693.
With the score 14-14, the Phoenix (8-1, 6-0 Southern) scored 21 unanswered points against the Catamounts (1-8, 1-6) to put the game out of reach at the end of the third.

DELAWARE STATE 24, WINSTON-SALEM 21: Jaashawn Jones ran for a career-high 143 yards and the visiting Hornets (3-6) built a 24-7 halftime lead on the Rams (1-8).

COASTAL CAROLINA 26, GARDNER-WEBB 21: Tommy Fraser scored on a 4-yard run with 4:17 left to give the host Chanticleers (4-5, 2-2) the win against the Bulldogs (5-4, 2-2).
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 46, PRESBYTERIAN 32: A.J. Toscano threw for four touchdowns and ran for another to tie the school record for a game in the Buccaneers' (4-5, 2-2) win.
Freshman Lance Byrd ran for 274 yards and two scores, setting a Presbyterian (0-9, 0-4) mark for rushing yards in his first start.

LENOIR-RHYNE 16, CATAWBA 13: Byron Darby's 72-yard touchdown run with less than five minutes gone in the second half gave the Bears (5-6, 2-5) a 16-0 lead at Catawba (4-6, 1-6).
WINGATE 56, MARS HILL 35: Cody Haffly threw five touchdown passes and ran for a sixth score to help the Bulldogs (7-3, 5-2) win a game at Mars Hill (6-4, 4-3) that featured 972 yards of offense.
