East Meck football: Eagles, a No. 12 seed, beat No. 5 seed Greensboro Page 50-28 in a first-round N.C. 4AA playoff game on the road Saturday. UP

Mecklenburg 4AA football: Eight teams remain in the west half of the bracket. Six are from Mecklenburg County. UP

Prep basketball: Tipoff is this week, and Mecklenburg County teams and players look awful strong. At a 13-team boys scrimmage at Olympic on Saturday, Vance and Hopewell looked especially impressive. UP

Myers Park boys basketball (0-0) at No 1 Hopewell (0-0), Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.: After reaching state semifinals last season, Titans take aim at a state title. Despite losing four starters, the Mustangs played well at Olympic scrimmage, led by guard Griffin Shaw.

East Meck boys basketball (0-0) at No. 8 West Charlotte, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.: New-look Lions debut with Wake Forest commit J.T. Terrell and former Vance star Jacoby Davis.

Queens Grant (0-0) at United Faith boys basketball (0-0), Saturday, 6 p.m.: United Faith might be the state's best team. Queens Grant, a talented charter school team, will give the Falcons a test.

No. 2 Myers Park soccer (16-2-3) at Greensboro Page (19-0-2), 4A Western regional semifinal, tonight, 7: The reigning 4A champion Mustangs are ranked No. 3 in the state and haven't lost since Sept. 15. The Mustangs have won six straight and allowed 13 goals all season. Page has won seven straight and allowed nine goals all year. Page beat Ardrey Kell 3-0 last week in a third-round match. Myers Park beat Ardrey Kell 1-0 in September and tied the Knights 0-0 last month.

No. 1 Charlotte Catholic (21-1-3) at No. 4 Marvin Ridge (19-2-1), 3A Western regional semifinal, tonight, 6: Catholic has won nine straight and is ranked No. 2 in the state. Marvin Ridge, ranked No. 4 in the state, has a 17-game win streak that includes 13 shutouts.

Big football games Friday: West Forsyth (10-2) at Butler (11-0), East Meck (7-5) at Olympic (10-2), Independence (11-1) at Mallard Creek (10-1) and Providence (8-4) at Richmond Senior (11-1).
