BALTIMORE The Baltimore Ravens' passing game appears to be better than anticipated.
Joe Flacco was 9-for-15 for 103 yards and led the Ravens to field goals on his two series, and Troy Smith threw for 200 yards, including a 19-yard score to Justin Harper with five seconds left in the first half, to help Baltimore beat the Redskins 23-0 Thursday.
The Ravens had feared their lack of depth at receiver might be an issue, but 15 players caught passes, including eight wideouts. Harper had four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Washington, however, never got closer than the Baltimore 30 and failed to cross midfield on nine of its 12 drives. Jason Campbell went 3-for-6 for 38 yards, and both his drives ended with punts. Backup Todd Collins was 8-for-11 for 70 yards, and Colt Brennan threw the game's lone interception.
Coach Jim Zorn said of Campbell: “He did a nice job keeping his focus down the field. I wish that we could have gotten the first-team offense into the end zone.”
PATRIOTS 27, EAGLES 25: Tom Brady, in his first game since tearing knee ligaments during Week1 last year, was 10-of-15 for 100 yards and two scores to help New England win at Philadelphia. The Eagles had a chance to win, but David Akers missed a 43-yard field-goal attempt with 57 seconds left.
STEELERS 20, CARDINALS 10: Isaac Redman, an undrafted rookie from Bowie State, scored on 3- and 5-yard runs during the fourth quarter to help host Pittsburgh put away Arizona. OBSERVER NEWS SERVICES
