Point guard Marques Johnson will transfer from N.C. State, the school announced Wednesday.
Johnson transferred to N.C. State from Tennessee in the spring of 2007 and averaged 2.0 points and 1.2 assists in 21 games last season, making six starts. He would have faced intense competition for playing time this season with Farnold Degand returning from knee surgery, Javier Gonzalez back for his sophomore season and Julius Mays joining the team as a freshman.
Davidson and three other schools that made deep runs in the NCAA men's basketball tournament will meet in the Jimmy V Classic doubleheader on Dec.9 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Davidson and West Virginia will play at 7p.m. Texas will play Villanova at 9p.m. Both games will be shown on ESPN.

In exchange for Williams, who averaged 17.2 points per game last season in the first year of a six-year, $51.5million contract, the Bucks will receive Damon Jones from Cleveland along with guard Luke Ridnour and forward Adrian Griffin from Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City will get veteran forward Joe Smith from Cleveland and Mason from Milwaukee.
