Myers Park at North Mecklenburg soccer, Thursday, 6:30: The Mustangs (2-0), No. 8 in the state coaches poll, have outscored teams 10-0. No. 15 North Meck (1-1) lost 5-1 to Ardrey Kell in its opener, but bounced back with a 2-1 win over Butler last week.
Ardrey Kell at Myers Park volleyball, Thursday, 5:30: Myers Park was a state 4A finalist last season and this is Kell's first year under perhaps the best public school volleyball coach in Mecklenburg County history, Zoe Bell, who won multiple state titles at Providence.
Shelby at Lincolnton soccer, Thursday, 5 p.m.: Shelby is No. 1 in the state 2A coaches poll; Lincolnton, eighth. They played in last year's playoffs with Shelby winning in two OT.

The girls tennis teams of Hickory St. Stephens and Alexander Central will have a “Swing For The Cure” promotion during their Sept. 22 match at St. Stephens, wearing pink-and-white shirts and playing with pink balls in support of breast cancer research.
East Lincoln pitcher
Drew Spear, a senior left hander, committed to UNC-Asheville. Spear hit .500 with 27 RBIs last season. He was 4-2 as a pitcher with a 2.88 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 34 innings.
During its 59-game win streak, Lake Norman's soccer team has outscored opponents 246-23, including 7-1 this season.
Doug Maynard has been named interim athletics director at Concord Cannon, replacing
Ron Johnson, who resigned to take a basketball assistant job at the University of Georgia. Maynard starts Sept. 8
