Spurrier might bench starter

COLUMBIA South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier says standout cornerback Captain Munnerlyn might not start against Mississippi because of missed classes and weightlifting sessions.

Munnerlyn started 10 games a season ago and all five this year. However, Spurrier says he wants to get the junior's attention about going to class and attending scheduled workouts.

Sophomore Addison Williams is listed as a co-starter with Munnerlyn on this week's depth chart.

Elsewhere

North Carolina: Durham Jordan tailback Jerrell “J.R.” Rhodes committed on Monday night.

Rhodes, 5-foot-9, 192 pounds, also had been offered scholarships by Akron, Ball State, Buffalo, and Illinois.

As a junior, Rhodes rushed for 1,191 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also caught 16 passes for 248 yards.

He also threw eight passes, completing five with two touchdown passes.

FLORIDA: Linebacker Dustin Doe will have surgery today to repair a double hernia and miss at least two games.

Doe, a two-year starter who has 13 tackles this season, was hurt Sept.6 against Miami. He played sparingly two weeks later at Tennessee, and the injury flared up again Saturday against Mississippi.

Coach Urban Meyer said he hopes to get Doe back before Florida's Oct.25 game against Kentucky.

GEORGIA TECH: Quarterback Josh Nesbitt was held out of practice with a strained right hamstring. Freshman Jaybo Shaw could make his first start when the Yellow Jackets play Duke on Saturday.

IOWA: Running back Shonn Greene is expected to play Saturday when the Hawkeyes face Michigan State.

Greene suffered a head injury early in the fourth quarter of last week's 22-17 loss against Northwestern and did not return.
