Notes: UNC, Duke games to start at 3:30 Saturday

North Carolina's game at Virginia and Miami at Duke will kick off at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 18, the ACC announced.

The North Carolina game will be carried regionally on ABC and will be seen in other parts of the country on ESPN2.

ESPNU will carry Duke's game.

Also on Oct. 18, Wake Forest will begin at noon at Maryland in a game televised by Raycom.

Georgia Tech at Clemson also will start at noon and will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2.

ACC HONORS CRANE, CARTER: Boston College quarterback Chris Crane and North Carolina linebacker Bruce Carter earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference on Monday.

Crane was named offensive back of the week after throwing for 428 yards and two scores while rushing for three touchdowns in the 38-31 win against N.C. State. Carter was named specialist of the week after setting an ACC single-game record by blocking three punts in the 38-12 win over previously unbeaten Connecticut.

The other weekly ACC honors winners were Florida State's Rodney Hudson as offensive lineman, Virginia linebacker Clint Sintim as top defensive lineman, Florida State's Tony Carter at defensive back and Georgia Tech quarterback Jaybo Shaw as top rookie.

SMELLEY EARNS SEC HONOR: Sophomore quarterback Chris Smelley of South Carolina was picked Monday as the Southeastern Conference's player of the week on offense.

Smelley threw for three touchdowns and a career-high 327 yards in a 31-24 victory at Mississippi on Saturday. He connected on 22 of his 32 throws.

Smelley has nine touchdown passes, tied for the most among SEC quarterbacks. He has hit on better than 63 percent of his throws, the second best percentage in the league.
