Mount Mourne teen bags 2 deer within 20 minutes

Aaron Eury, 14, of Mount Mourne in Iredell County, scored a rare double last week while deer hunting in Anson County.

Using a muzzle-loader rifle, Eury bagged two deer within 20 minutes. Both were does. “Aaron is a fine outdoorsman,” said his dad, Kelly Eury, who was along on the hunting trip.

David Williams of Maiden won $100,000 and a slot in the 2009 Bassmaster Classic on Saturday for his first-place finish as a boater in the Bassmaster Weekend Series National Championship on Lake Norman. His winning, four-day weight of fish was 42.33 pounds.

Catches Of The Week

A 501/2 -inch red drum by Pat Bracher while fishing at Avon Pier on Hatteras Island. The fish had a girth of 331/2 inches and weighed an estimated 70 pounds. It was released alive. Bracher is a Florida Keys guide who spends autumns on Hatteras Island.

A 79-inch shark in the surf at Ocracoke Island by Danny Fletchers of Elizabeth City.

A white marlin and a sailfish off Georgetown, S.C., by a party fishing from the “Daymaker,” owner by Mark Daniels of Greenville, S.C., and skippered by Jay Weaver.

A 41/2 pound black drum at Bogue Inlet Pier by Tom Parker of Mooresville.
