Hopewell's Anthony Lopez beat North Mecklenburg's Eugene Shiu 6-2, 6-1 recently in the ME-CA 7 4A singles final.Regional qualifiers in singles are Lopez, Shiu, Connor Chapman and Tam Tran-Viet (Mallard Creek), and Miles Armstrong (North Meck).
Concord Robinson's Gray Cannon and Forrest Cannon won the conference doubles title with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against teammates Richard Duong and Josh Mosakowski. -- cliff mehrtens

Anson Senior's Lewis Adams, who won the South Piedmont 3A tournament with a 73, is the conference player of the year. Unionville Piedmont's David Smith is coach of the year.

Covenant Day won the Metrolina Athletic Conference girls' tournament with a 2-1 overtime victory against Concord First Assembly. Mackenzie Weigel and Sara Stiles scored for the Lions. -- c.m.

SouthLake Christian's Daniel Stallsmith accepted the Jolley scholarship to Furman. Stallsmith, batting .535 with six home runs and 37 RBIs, was named most valuable player in the Southern Piedmont Athletic Association. -- c.m. Charlotte Catholic's Jordan Koletic signed with Miami (Ohio). Koletic, an All-Mecklenburg and All-Queen City 3A/4A performer, won three N.C. 3A girls' titles last winter -- 100-yard freestyle, 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay -- to help the Cougars win the 3A state title. -- brett honeycutt
