Crest QB commits to UNC after watching Citadel game

Boiling Springs Crest High senior quarterback Reggie Wilkins spent Saturday watching North Carolina dismantle The Citadel in Chapel Hill. It kind of took his mind off his wisdom teeth, which had been removed last Tuesday.

“He looked like a chipmunk after the surgery,” said Crest coach Roy Kirby. “We didn't want to take any chances with him, so we held him out of Friday night's game with T.C. Roberson.”

Wilkins took in the Citadel blowout, then forgot all about his former teeth. He committed to North Carolina's Class of 2010.

“He and his brother have been Carolina fans all their lives,” Kirby said. “I knew that somewhere deep in his heart, there was something special for the Tar Heels.”

Patriots RB gets offers

Independence running back Nyjee Fleming, a 5-foot-10, 186-pound junior, is already receiving offers from major area schools.

“I have offers from Virginia and Clemson and N.C. State, he said after the Patriots' 35-32 victory at Rock Hill South Pointe on Friday.

Fleming is an intriguing combination of shiftiness and speed. He finished the game with 122 rushing yards on 14 carries.

S.C. linebacker has options

Beaufort (S.C.) High linebacker Justin Parker took an unofficial visit to Clemson for Saturday's Middle Tennessee game, and continues to favor the Tigers slightly over South Carolina, with that duo ahead of his many other pursuers, according to Columbia recruiting expert Phil Kornblut.

Parker, who is ranked No.12 on The Observer's S.C. Top 25 list, had strongly considered N.C. State and Wake Forest earlier, but he's also intrigued by Colorado and Nebraska.
