It lets you use the virtual card at a lot of U.S. stores online, and you can also use it in person with Apple Pay or Google Pay. There’s also a single-use version, but that one is more limited; not everyone gets access to it, and Sezzle still has to approve the purchase.

So if you were hoping for one giant master list, that’s not really how this works. That said, I have learned a lot from my own experiences, and I’m happy to share.

Why The Answer Isn’t Straightforward

I think this is where most of the confusion comes from.

Most payment methods are pretty straightforward. Either the store takes them, or it doesn’t.

Sezzle can feel a little less predictable than that. A store might accept Visa, but your order can still get declined if the purchase amount is too high, the card setup doesn’t line up, or the item falls into a category Sezzle does not allow.

That’s why it can work perfectly at one store, then not work at another. It’s not really random. There are just more moving parts than people expect.

The Two Sezzle Virtual Card Options

This part matters more than people expect.

Single-Use Card

The single-use card is the more limited option. It’s made for one purchase at a set amount, so you create it for a specific order and use it there. It can work online or in person through Apple Pay or Google Pay, but not everyone has access to it, and some purchases may still come with restrictions or extra fees.

Multi-Use Card

The multi-use card is the more flexible version. It comes with Sezzle Anywhere and is meant for ongoing use instead of a one-time purchase. If you have it, you can use it at a lot of U.S. stores online and in person with Apple Pay or Google Pay.

There’s also Sezzle Premium, which sits somewhere in the middle. It gives shoppers access to the multi-use card for certain brands in the app, while Sezzle Anywhere gives you much broader access overall.

Stores Where Sezzle Virtual Card Usually Works

This is the part most people actually care about.

Sezzle has dedicated help pages for stores like Amazon and Walmart, which are common places where people use the virtual card. It also says Sezzle Premium members can shop brands like Amazon, Walmart, and Target through the app, though access can depend on the membership and the store.

Still, that does not mean every purchase at those stores will go through.

Walmart is a good example. Some purchases may not qualify, including gift cards, wireless plans, alcohol, and certain Walmart+ purchases.

That’s the better way to think about it. A store might take Sezzle, but that does not automatically mean every item in your cart will work.

How Sezzle Virtual Card Usually Works at Checkout

In most cases, people use the Sezzle Virtual Card in one of two ways.

The first is online. After Sezzle approves the purchase, you enter the card details at checkout like you would with any other card.

The second is in person. If your setup allows it, you can use the card through Apple Pay or Google Pay at checkout.

That’s why the answer is not really about one huge list of stores. It usually comes down to a few basic things:

The store is based in the U.S.

The checkout accepts Visa

You’re using the right type of Sezzle virtual card

You have an active purchase request if your card setup requires one

The item is not in a restricted category

If all of those lines up, the card is much more likely to work.

When Sezzle Virtual Card Might Not Work

In my experience, the Sezzle Virtual Card works really well in most everyday situations. I’ve actually used it quite a bit for travel—everything from plane tickets to hotels—and it’s been pretty seamless overall.

That said, there are a few scenarios where it can be a little less predictable. Some travel sites process bookings through multiple merchants behind the scenes, which can occasionally cause issues with a single-use card. In those cases, you might see a decline or multiple pending charges instead of one transaction.

There are also some purchase restrictions to keep in mind. Even if a site accepts Visa, that doesn’t always guarantee the transaction will go through with Sezzle, depending on the category.

And like most payment tools, your account status plays a role. Things like missed payments, low spending power, or a locked card can affect approvals. When that happens, it’s usually tied to the account rather than the retailer itself.

Overall, though, as long as everything is in good standing, I’ve found it to be a pretty reliable option—even for bigger purchases like travel.

What To Check Before You Buy

If you want to avoid checkout problems, it helps to run through a quick checklist first:

Is the merchant based in the U.S.?

Does the checkout accept Visa?

Are you using the right Sezzle option for the purchase?

Do you need to create a purchase request first?

Is the item in a normal retail category?

Could the order be split into more than one charge?

That last point is easy to miss.

A purchase can look simple on your screen, then get processed in a much messier way behind the scenes.

Bottom Line

So, who accepts Sezzle Virtual Card? A lot of U.S. merchants can, especially if they take Visa, and you have the right Sezzle setup. Whether the card works usually comes down to the store, your card type, your membership, your account status, and what you’re trying to buy.

That’s why I’d think of Sezzle Virtual Card as a flexible payment option, not a guaranteed “yes” at every checkout. It can open up a lot more stores than standard Sezzle checkout, but it still helps to check the details before you buy.

FAQs

Can you use the Sezzle Virtual Card anywhere?
Not exactly.
