One of Charlotte’s most popular rooftop bars is back in business. What to expect.
A popular rooftop bar in Charlotte has officially reopened its doors after temporarily closing.
The Royal Tot, located in the Belmont neighborhood, closed at the end of May and has since been sold to a new owner. The bar, which first opened in 2021, is known for its tropical cocktails and menu.
“I love the rooftop in here. I love the aesthetic in here. It’s very unique to Charlotte,” new owner Gregory Walter told CharlotteFive. “I can’t think of another bar in Charlotte that’s similar to us.”
When you walk into The Royal Tot, you immediately feel like you’re in a tropical oasis. Filled with palm trees, nautical decor and drinkware, the bar still has its iconic tiki-theme but Walter has plans to take the bar to the next level with more events and more guests.
“My ultimate goal is for there to be an event pretty much every day,” Walter explained. “So that if you don’t know what you’re doing that day and if you’re looking for something fun to do, you can say ‘Oh I’ll go to The Royal Tot. They’re doing something fun over there today’ no matter what day it is.”
The two-story bar is open to anyone 18 years or older and offers a wide variety of specialty cocktails, mocktails and small bites.
Whether you want to sit and enjoy a drink downstairs or play games and party on the rooftop overlooking the city skyline, The Royal Tot has multiple spaces that can even be rented out for private parties or events for up to 150 people.
“This is a phenomenal space,” Walter said. “It’s a really unique place … there’s other rooftop bars but a lot of them are in Uptown looking out at the suburbs. But you’re here, about a mile away from Uptown looking at the city skyline. It’s great.”
