Lowcountry charm: a dreamy destination wedding in Charleston [Jennifer & Brad]

Brad Keefer popped the question to Jennifer Wilkins on Labor Day in 2014 in Newport, RI. At the time, the couple was living in different cities (Brad, 36, lived in Boston; Jennifer, 30, lived in Washington D.C.), flying back and forth every other weekend.

That particular weekend, Jennifer was visiting, and Brad arranged a picnic at one of their favorite spots, The Castle Hill Inn.

While taking in a beautiful sunset overlooking Newport Harbor, Brad surprised Jennifer with an offer letter from his company to relocate to northern Virginia, bringing them together after a year apart.

Jennifer threw her arms around Brad and shrieked with excitement. Little did she know, Brad had another, even bigger surprise. He then pulled a ring from his pocket, got down on one knee, and proposed.

A year later, the couple had a destination wedding on October 15, 2015 at the Legare Waring House in Charleston, S.C.

Jennifer’s favorite part of the wedding day:

Saying “I do” to marriage, love, and life beneath a suspended chandelier in the enchanting Avenue of Oaks covered in hanging moss, on a beautiful October evening in front of our loved ones.

Immediately following the ceremony, the couple switched gears from Scottish bagpipes to Lowcountry jazz. Following six members of the River City Dixieland Jazz brass band, the bride and groom led all of their guests in a New Orleans-style “Second Line March” from the ceremony to their reception; copper mugs filled with Moscow Mules were passed to guests for the parade.

The jazz band continued serenading guests during the couples cocktail hour, mini beef Wellingtons, macerated berry and ricotta crostini, and chicken-dipped waffle bites with bourbon-infused syrup were passed.
