‘There’s no hero coming to save us’: Toussaint Romain on our political climate and Charlotte, one year after the protests

Who: Mecklenburg County public defender and Charlotte Observer editorial board contributing editor Toussaint Romain gained notoriety last year for his actions during the protests following the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, and also is a well-respected voice of cultural and political issues in Charlotte. He recently wrote an editorial in the Observer titled ‘Why I, as a black man, switched Democrat to Republican and back again’.

What: Sallie Funderburk and I discuss with Romain why he no longer feels welcome in the current Republican party, politics in the day of Trump, the importance of getting involved at the local level, and if anything has changed in a year since the Keith Lamont Scott shooting and protests.
