If you're looking for a place to relax, try some new wines and nibble a bit, the Wine Shop at Foxcroft (7824 Fairview Road) suits your needs. Well-edited menu and decent prices …
The best thing about Nikko (1300 South Blvd.) is its ultra-hip vibe and enthusiastic crowds, but the sushi and entrées I had also fared well, and it can't hurt to have an owner who likes to dance in a cowboy hat …
Machu Picchu (4715 E. Independence Blvd.) offers a sleek Peruvian menu and terrific, rich anticuchos with spicy chile sauce. helen schwab
Maki: Fort Mill reader Ed Alessandrini suggests the Green Tree Roll at Tokyo Japanese Restaurant at 3420 Toringdon Way (704-541-1788). Alessandrini raves that the sushi here is phenomenal, the staff very attentive and friendly and the sushi chef often sends a complimentary dish to try.
Wine adventures: Kevin Howard, owner of Vintage Wine Cellar in Ballantyne, feels his place fits the bill, and that “the décor is perfect to lounge for days.” The menu covers bruschetta to sandwiches, cheeses to entrées. Toringdon Shopping Center, 12206 Copper Way; 704-543-3977.
