Charlotte’s Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts + Cultural Center was awarded $40,000 by the National Endowment for the Arts to help digitize its John & Vivian Hewitt Collection of African-American Art. The grant, part of $74.85 million awarded nationwide, will go toward expanding the interactive capabilities of the website. The collection includes works by Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett and Jacob Lawrence. McClatchy Washington Bureau
