Band video: Life Size delivers soulful pop-rock debut

The impressive young band Life Size, whose members cut their teeth in Catawba College’s music program, deliver a soulful pop-rock debut with “The Mockingbird Alarmclock EP.”

The well-dressed Salisbury quintet boasts strong musicianship and vocal harmonies with amped up hooks on songs like “Blue Vitriol.” That track in particular evolves into an extended jam marked by passionate delivery and blues guitar that could place them on a late night stage at Bonnaroo. But Life Size is a pop band too. The versatile group hits on a jangly acoustic Dave Matthews Band-meets-gospel feel that gives tracks like “Walk Through Me” and “Mockingbird Alarmclock” an uplifting spiritual-pop feel, but it’s also capable of driving rock tracks like “It’s Mornin’.”

The band plays Evening Muse on Saturday Jan. 10 and pairs with new Charlotte rock group Sacramento. Show starts at 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5.
