Charlotte's big read

If Harper Lee's “To Kill a Mockingbird” is a classic you'd love to read again or for the first time, you'll have a perfect opportunity next year.

The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County $20,000 to host The Big Read in the Charlotte area.

The program gives communities the opportunity to come together to read, discuss and celebrate one of 23 selections from American and world literature. A kickoff is planned for January.

Charlotte's library is one of 208 organizations to receive a Big Read grant.
