Give the gift of Charlotte this holiday season with a book from a local author.

On Dec. 4 at the Mint Museum Uptown, The Charlotte Observer will hold its second annual Authors for the Holidays event featuring more than 25 local writers, including Kathy Reichs of the Bones series; Lisa Leake," 100 Days of Real Food;" Jason Mott, "The Wonder of All Things;" Dot Jackson, "Refuge;" and Charla Muller, "Pretty Takes Practice."

They will join other fiction and non-fiction writers for this lunchtime event, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mint's Atrium. You'll be able to meet the authors and get any books you purchase signed. Any book purchase brings a one-day only 50 percent discount on museum general admission and a 10 percent discount on lunch at Halcyon.

You can also purchase the Observer's newest book, "Carolina Bride: The Book."

At noon, we'll have a special Authors Chat with Reichs, Leake, Mott and Muller about what it takes to become a best-selling author. The Observer's book editor, Dannye Romine Powell, will moderate the chat in the Mint's auditorium.

The event is free. Seating for the lunchtime chat is first-come, first-served.

The Mint Museum Uptown is located at 500 S. Tryon St.
