Reading Matters

Dorothea Benton Frank’s latest Lowcountry novel

For you lucky folks at Litchfield, S.C., today, enjoying the waves and the wonder, you’ll have something else to enjoy as well.

Bestselling author Dorothea Benton Frank, who lives in New York but is a native of South Carolina’s Sullivans Island, will be signing copies of her latest novel, “All the Single Ladies,” at 2 p.m. today at Litchfield Books on Pawley’s Island.

Her first novel, “Sullivans Island,” debuted at No. 9 on the New York Times bestseller list and went back to press 25 times. Subsequent novels -- one every year or two -- include “Plantation,” “Isle of Palms,” “Shem Creek,” “Pawleys Island,” “Lowcountry Summer,” “Folly Beach,” and most recently, “The Hurricane Sisters.”

I’ve only begun to dip into the book, but I can tell you there’s an interesting mother-daught dynamic, a lot about power walking, loss, dating, good food (including tomato pies and peach cobbler), and a great deal about the enduring relationships of female friends.

Litchfield Books is at 11421 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island, S.C., 29585.
