Reading Matters

A Civil War tale of romance and outlaws

I had the good luck to hear Georgia native Taylor Brown read from his debut novel, “Fallen Land,” at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh not too long ago. The guy looks to be about 20-something but he writes like a master.

Now you’ll have the good luck to hear him read here in Charlotte at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Park Road Books, 4139 Park Road, Park Road Shopping Center.

Kirkus Reviews says “Fallen Land” is “American literature at its best, full of art and beauty and the exploration of all that is good and bad in the human spirit.”

Set in the final year of the Civil War, 15-year-old Callum, a seasoned horse thief, rescues young Ava from the bands of hungry soldiers pillaging the land.

War and love: always a heady combination.

The reading is free, and you’re invited.
