Reading Matters

John Amen to read tonight at Waterbean

One of the liveliest poetry nights I’ve ever experienced was on a fourth Wednesday night back in January at Waterbean Coffee at NorthCross Shopping Center in Huntersville. The place was popping with warmth, good energy and the smell of dark, rich coffee.

Tonight – 7-9 p.m.– at Waterbean, Pedestal Magazine founder and editor and prize-winning poet John Amen will be the star. He’ll read from his latest collection “strange theater,” recently named honorable mention in the prestigious Brockman-Campbell Poetry Award from the North Carolina Poetry Society.

An open mic will follow the featured reader. Those who want to read must sign up by 7:15.

Hosts for the series are Jonathan K. Rice and Leslie M. Rupracht of Iodine Poetry Journal.

Address: 9705 Sam Furr Road (by the fountain pond, behind Verizon Wireless store).
