Alive After Five

The 2015 Alive After Five concert series is about to start. These free shows kick off the weekend a little early every Thursday from April 2 to Aug. 27. This Thursday, Sol Fusion will perform on the Rooftop Stage and Heroes at Last will play on the Plaza Stage.


A Children’s World of Play

Sat Noon-4 p.m. ImaginOn, 300 E. Seventh St.

At this event from International House, kids will learn about different cultures through music, dance, games, puppetry, storytelling, crafts and more, and 7th Street Public Market will offer internationally themed meals. Performances will include Indian dancing by Maha’s Dances of India, Brazilian fusion acts, Latin performances and African drummers. Kids will enjoy a parade of giant pole puppets, write their names in Chinese characters, listen to storytelling and play with traditional Mexican toys.


UNCC International Film Fest

This is the final week of UNCC’s annual International Film Fest. All films are free. They’re shown in their original language, with English subtitles, often followed by a discussion. This week, films from France, Italy, Israel, Russia and Cambodia will be shown. Visit website for details.


Open rehearsal of Carmina Burana

Carolina Calouche & Co. is Charlotte’s only aerial and contemporary dance company and school. Its next production is Carmina Burana, a cantata by Carl Orff (intended for mature audiences). Tickets are on sale, but you can catch it for free: The public is invited to an open rehearsal at the company’s studios in the Greylyn Business Park. First-come, first-served.

Bass Pro Shops is once again offering free 4-by-6 Easter Bunny pictures to families from Saturday through April 5. Kids also are invited to create Easter crafts and hunt for eggs. Check website for details.
