Discovery Place’s new exhibit, “Guitar: The Instrument that Rocked The World,” will showcase nearly 100 historical artifacts, including more than 60 guitars, from the vihuela of 16th century Spain to the Fender Stratocaster. There will be lots of hands-on activities, the world’s largest playable guitar, a chance to try out instruments and even a chance to build your own guitar. In conjunction, enjoy free performances every Saturday on the Tryon Street patio outside the museum. This Saturday’s performance will feature A Sign of the Times duo: Van Sachs and Toni Tupponce, whose music will range from gospel to jazz to country.

History

Buffalo Soldiers living history day

Historic Latta Plantation is presenting its first living history day devoted to the Buffalo Soldiers, established by Congress as the first peacetime all-African American regiments in the U.S. Army. Learn about their lives during and after the Civil War and enjoy an open house tour.

The City of Kannapolis offers a full schedule of free summer entertainment, including concerts, outdoor movies and children’s activities. On Saturday, the Blue Moon Puppets are featured in Stories Under the Stars, a monthly program for kids that takes place outside the Kannapolis Library.

Soccer Shots, a youth soccer program, invites families to its FunFest for soccer, four bounce houses, balloon twisters, music, face-painting and bubble soccer, in which players are encased in giant plastic bubbles. Food trucks Vic the Chili Man, The Chrome Toaster, Kona Ice and The Southern Cake Queen will be on site, so bring a few bucks. Raffles to benefit the charity, Global Goals.
