Celebrate the cultures of Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. There will be two stages, one featuring cultural performances and one featuring live Latin music. The Latin American Village will highlight art, clothing and cultural items from 15 Latin countries. Many Charlotte organizations, including Opera Carolina, The Mint Museum and Discovery Place, will be offering family-friendly activities at the Charlotte Community Partner Pavilion. Enjoy Latin music, dance, art, as well as children’s activities. You’ll even get a chance to learn Zumba.
1846 Mexican American War Militia Muster

Learn about the 1846 Mexican American War through this living history event. Explore the life of a common citizen who was called into service. Living history re-enactors will demonstrate military drilling, as well as home life.
Kids in Nature Day

Dress the kids in clothes and shoes that can get muddy for this back-to-nature event. Kids will fish, explore streams, hike, create nature crafts, plant and take part in scavenger hunts.
Modern Film Fest Screening

This may be the perfect activity if the weather doesn’t improve. Modern Film Fest, along with Kannapolis Arts, is presenting free independent films at Gem Theatre the first Saturday of every month through June. Concerts at Abbey Basilica

Belmont Abbey College offers a full season of concerts at the beautiful Abbey Basilica. Each concert is free, but donations are accepted. The college is off Interstate 85, Exit 26, close to Charlotte in nearby Gaston County. Monday’s program, “Captivated by Love and Dancing,” features Carolina Pro Musica, assisted by John Pruett on baroque violin.
