This month’s free concert features The Harris Brothers, from Lenoir, whose repertoire includes traditional roots music, rock and roll, jazz, blues, Appalachian mountain music, vintage country, gospel and bluegrass. Doors open at 7. Refreshments, a song circle and jam sessions follow the concert. Donations will be accepted.

TreesCharlotte, an organization dedicated to increasing Charlotte’s tree canopy, invites residents to the Free TreeStore. Every Charlotte household is eligible for up to two free trees, while supplies last, plus a free bag of mulch for each tree. You must show proof of Charlotte residency to participate. You’ll receive mandatory training on how to properly plant and care for your tree and be asked to complete and sign a Stewardship Pledge form. Supplies are limited, so you can’t reserve trees or be guaranteed a species type. Trees are 6-10 feet tall.

Pretty soon you’ll be seeing Santa everywhere, but at this invite you can draw or paint him, too. Santa will visit from noon to 3 p.m. Parents can take pictures of their child with Santa, and artists of all ages are invited to bring their own art supplies, stake out a spot and create original Santa art. The artists of ClearWater will have an Art Market of small works for sale as holiday gifts, and the studios will be open to visit. Register here: bit.ly/santa-art.
Santa’s arrival at Wonderland

Starting Saturday, Bass Pro Shops will host its annual Santa’s Wonderland each day through Dec. 24. Kids can get a picture with Santa, receive a plush toy, play games and create holiday crafts. It’s all free, including a 4-by-6 print from the Santa photo session, but you can buy more prints. On Saturday, the Wonderland will be unveiled, the tree will be lit and Santa will make his entrance. Every half hour Santa will give away a $25 Bass Pro Shops gift card. Hot chocolate and cookies will be free too.
Stargazing at Fisher Farm

Join the Davidson Lands Conservancy, the town of Davidson, WOW-World of Wonder and Woodland Discovery for an evening of stargazing. You’re welcome to bring your own telescope, but the physics department from Davidson College and the Charlotte Amateur Astronomers Club will also provide equipment, as well as their expertise, for this popular event.
