Mistletoe Magic

Morrison at SouthPark is once again hosting its popular holiday celebration with Santa and Mrs. Claus, music from Davidson United Methodist Church Handbell Choir, carriage rides and strolling Dickens carolers. The activities will take place all over the shopping center, so you’ll have a chance to browse the shops as well. Unwrapped gifts for Toys for Tots will be collected at Earth Fare.

Christmas at St. Nektarios

This free concert by Opera Carolina will feature traditional Christmas carols, Greek folk music and religious hymns. Donations will benefit A Child’s Place, a nonprofit organization that focuses on the educational needs of homeless children. At 5:30 p.m. there will be a presentation about the architecture of the churches of Orthodox Christianity. After the 6 p.m. concert, enjoy a light reception.

Art in the Dairy Open House

The dairy is the former 1940 dairy processing plant of Black’s Dairy, a home-delivery company that specialized in milk and ice cream. Today, the dairy houses art studios of glass, metal, silver and clay and is home to two goats, one miniature donkey and many chickens. At the open house visitors can walk through installed art by Phillip Larrimore, talk technology with artists, see the tiny house Alex Fahad is building, shop at a studio clean-out sale, see a demonstration by silversmith Dan Haga’s students, hear live music by Tim Murray and Debby Dobbins, try out various art projects and enjoy free food.

Ugly Sweater Party

What was once a source of embarrassment is now a badge of honor. Wear your ugliest sweater with pride at Blackfinn’s Ugly Sweater Party. If your sweater surpasses the ugliness of all the other sweaters, you’ll win a $200 gift card. Register for your free ticket at uglysweaterpartyfinn.eventbrite.com. The party will go on until 2 a.m. but you’ll need to check in between 9 and 11 p.m. for free admission. 21-plus.

Duke Energy Winter Wonderland

Thursday will be the last chance to see the Duke Energy Winter Wonderland at Phillips Place, which has been wowing crowds. The 3-D light show incorporates seasonal music, live-action and digital effects, and holiday themes from around the world. Showtimes are 7, 7:50 and 8:35 p.m. There will be plenty of entertainment between the light shows, including stilt-walkers, elves, goodie bags and teddy bears for kids, carolers and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Free hot chocolate, too. Park at the Morrocroft Centre parking deck, 4064 Colony Road, and catch a free shuttle that’s running every 15 minutes 6-10 p.m.
