More than 30 young musicians, ages 9-19, will perform on a variety of instruments (fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar and ukulele) in a variety of traditions (old-time music, bluegrass, Celtic, Gypsy jazz and Scottish country dance). Doors open at 7. Refreshments, a song circle and jam sessions follow the concert. Donations will be accepted.

The second Tuesday of every month, enjoy a free evening at the Schiele, an excellent natural history museum in nearby Gastonia. All the museum’s exhibits and the Nature Trail will be available for exploration. Watch a special showing of Red Starr’s “Solar System Roundup” at 6 p.m. in the James H. Lynn Planetarium.
‘Animal Planet’ opening reception

The exhibit “Animal Planet” celebrates the creatures that share our space on earth, whether mammal, amphibian, reptile, fish or bird. It’s free to attend, but Ciel Gallery is collecting donations for Charlotte Animal Control. Search for Charlotte Mecklenburg ACC on Amazon for list. During the reception local artist Susan Grant will do a live pet portrait demo. This is a family-friendly event.
Providence Chamber Music Recital Series

Hear top-notch musicians perform a wide variety of compositions. At this Sunday’s concert, musicians will perform “Four Pieces for Violin and Piano, op. 17,” by Josef Suk; music by Yoshinao Nakada; and “Sonata for Flute and Piano,” by Francis Poulenc.
