Southern Grace Distilleries
Southern Grace Distilleries of Concord plans to expand operations and move into a soon-to-be-renovated state prison in Mount Pleasant, N.C. The distillery is known for its Sun Dog 130, a corn whiskey. The new space in eastern Cabarrus County will allow the distiller to make new whiskey products as well as add an aged whiskey program. Chef Jamie Lynch of 5Church (127 N. Tryon St.) has unveiled his new spring/summer menu featuring seasonal dishes and snacks. New menu items include the shitake mushroom and leek agnolotti, seared sea scallops with crispy potato cakes, and poached cobia with toasted pearl couscous. Reservations: 704-919-1322.
All locations of Hickory Tavern will offer a free meal from open to close to veterans and active duty military on Memorial Day. The free meal includes a nonalcoholic drink; military ID is required.
The Asbury (237 N. Tryon St.) and Assorted Table Wine Shoppe will host a Fisticuffs wine dinner June 7. Chef Matthew Krenz will serve five courses paired with five wines from winemaker Rob Lawson. Cost is $85; reservations: 704-277-3234.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House

Corkbuzz Restaurant & Wine Bar
Corkbuzz (4905 Ashley Park Lane) is bringing back its Sunday night clambakes starting this weekend. The family-style meal serves six and includes clams, mussels, shrimp, sides and more plus four bottles of wine for $300. Reservations: 704-625-1328.
The Eat (RED) initiative to raise funds for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS is coming to Charlotte in June. Two fundraising dinners are planned June 5 to benefit the organization. Heirloom (8470 Bellhaven Road) will host an eight-course dinner inspired by eight countries in Africa Eat (RED) supports. Passion8 (1523 Elizabeth Ave.) will host a nine- course brunch party June 5. The Fig Tree Restaurant
The Fig Tree Restaurant (1601 E. Seventh St.) has received the National Operation School Bell Award from the Assistance League of Charlotte. The restaurant was recognized for contributions made with its charity pancake breakfast in December. Operation School Bell provides clothing and coats for children in need.
