Nellie’s Southern Kitchen
Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, the new concept from the Jonas family, is now open in Belmont at 36 N. Main St. Executive chef Ben Sholiton’s Southern fare (such as shrimp and grits and fried chicken) can be ordered a la carte or family style. Bistro La Bon
Bistro La Bon (1322 Central Ave.) will be closed to the public Sunday night for a cooking class and wine tasting. Chef Majid Amoorpour will teach a salmon and mussels cooking class at 5 p.m., with Liz Saintsing of Fine Wine Trading pairing the wines. The class costs $75. Also at 5 p.m. Sunday, Brian Mockler of Epiphany Wine Co. will conduct a wine tasting featuring eight small production wines for $30. Reservations for both events: 704-333-4646.
Tupelo Honey Cafe
Tupelo Honey Cafe (1820 South Blvd.) has unveiled new summer menu items. Southern shrimp tacos, watermelon salad, pulled pork plates and summer salt roasted beets are among the offerings.
Mama Ricotta’s (601 S. Kings Drive) has added new dishes from its collection of family recipes. A peek finds an arugula salad served with Bresola salami and tonnarelli pasta carbonara tossed with bacon and eggs. Reservations: 704-343-0148.

The Liberty (1812 South Blvd.) has made The Best Burger in All 50 States list, compiled by NYC-based writer Stephanie Vermillion. Both the Black Angus Liberty Pub Burger and the American Crunch Burger got a nod.

The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge
The Ballantyne (10000 Ballantyne Commons Way) will feature a pop-up beer garden on the south lawn, noon-7 p.m. July 3. Local beer, a cookout and live music will be featured; free admission to the garden.
