JJ’s will kick off the opening of the new movie “Sausage Party” this weekend with free sausages for moviegoers. Friday through Sunday, guests with a “Sausage Party” ticket stub will get to pick a free sausage from a list of options. Locations: www.jjsredhots.com.
Pig Picking Fundraiser
Chef Michael Spencer of Fork! will host a pig picking Saturday at Summit Coffee (128 N. Main St., Davidson). The event will be held in the parking lot and the pig smoked on site. Plates will be served from 10 a.m.-noon. A choice of a pulled pork sandwich, pulled pork tacos or a banh mi sandwich served with sides is $10. Proceeds will benefit the Davidson Farmer’s Market’s SNAP matching program.
Customshop (1601 Elizabeth Ave.) will host a summer cocktail event Wednesday. The cost of $65 per person includes four cocktails and shared small plates. Reservations: 704-333-3396.

Block & Grinder of Cotswold and Mooresville has hired Jossie Perlmutter, formerly of the Asbury, as their first pastry chef. Perlmutter will have a dual role, also serving as sous chef.
Mac’s Speed Shop
Mac’s Speed Shop (2511 South Blvd.) raised nearly $25,000 at the 24 Hours of Booty event held the last weekend of July. The Mac’s team placed 11th out of 138 teams in terms of donations pledged. 24 Hours of Booty is an annual cycling event that raises fund for cancer-fighting research.
