Mac’s Speed Shop placed fifth in the “whole hog” division at the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest in Tennessee this past weekend.

Topping the category were The Shed BBQ from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, followed by Salty Rinse from New York, Cotton Patch from Mississippi and World’s Most Interesting Team from Memphis. (As you may surmise, some teams do not also run restaurants.)

Chef Kevin Kuruc noted teams his team topped, including Yazoo’s Delta Q from Mississippi, Mike Mills and Apple City Barbecue from Illinois, and Memphis’s Victory Lane BBQ.

About 250 teams from in and outside the United States competed. Mac’s has five locations, three in Charlotte and one each in Fayetteville and Greenville, S.C. A sixth is planned for Greensboro this summer.
