Dine out, do good, beachfront tiki style

Kindred begins a Guest Chef Series with a June 14 dinner – well, not a dinner but a Beachfront Tiki Roast, with Charleston’s Craig Deihl.

(Yes, that’s how he spells it, and if you’re not familiar with him, he’s chef at the well-regarded fine-dining Cypress and the relatively new Artisan Meat Share, which showcases his skill with charcuterie, as well as offering fresh meats and sandwiches.)

The event begins with a cocktail party at the DeGorter house on Lake Norman, then guests will be ferried to the roast on the beach, where chef Joe Kindred and Deihl will be doing whole ducks, chickens, a lamb and a pig with seasonal vegetables and more (mostly over charcoal), plus music, a tiki bar, N.C. draft beer and wines.

Tickets are $200. The “Big Kahuna” package ($2,500 for two) includes a complimentary hotel room and champagne breakfast at Kindred’s chef’s table the next morning. Profits go to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte. Info here.
