Tapas 51 is scheduled to open June 12, says chef/owner Aaron Rivera, in the former Passion8 space in Fort Mill.
Rivera, who you may know from the food truck Chrome Toaster, aims at street food and more from Mexico “and lower,” as he puts it, with some spin.
On the menu: Colombian chorizo sliders; popcorn shrimp pupusa; frijoles en olla (a 62-degree poached egg with New Town Farm radish and queso fresco from local cheesemaker Una Alla Volta); chile-coffee-crusted brisket; several ceviches and more, with prices ranging about $5 to $12.
Among drinks, look for hard limeade with Honduran white cherries; hibiscus sours; beer from local breweries and bottled imports; aguas frescas and sodas, plus a smart, short wine list.
