Bonterra chef headed west with the Panthers

chef Blake Hartwick will represent the Carolina Panthers at the 25th annual

Taste of the NFL

, which happens the night before the Super Bowl. Harwick, with Springer Mountain Farms chicken, will be doing his “Winning Wings” for the event Feb. 6 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. He’s done this event five times before, and it’s part of a season-long fundraiser that benefits Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. (The restaurant has done prior fundraisers here in town, and the food bank will get a portion of the proceeds from the Feb. 6 event, which boasts restaurant stations from each NFL city, a player or alum player at each, merchandise, live entertainment and a silent auction.)

“I’m not saying it’s the wings,” Hartwick said in a news release, “but every time I made them, the team did seem to win.” (He did not make them the Sunday that Carolina lost in Atlanta, though he was there. So let’s not let that happen again.) You can watch him do a YouTube cooking demo (also sort of a Springer Mountain ad), but don’t plan on making it at home, since it’s vacuum-packed and cooked sous-vide before they’re finished off on a wood grill. (We’re asking him for tips for the non-sous-viding among us; we’ll report back.)
