Saturday Night Live (11:30 p.m., NBC) – Break out your leopard furs and beat somebody down with a broomstick if you have to, just don’t miss Taraji P. Henson (Cookie on “Empire”) in her debut hosting gig. Mumford & Sons perform.

My Cat From Hell (8 p.m., Animal Planet) Jackson Galaxy helps a man whose cat, Darkness, is coming between him and his girlfriend. Then Jackson heads to another home that four cats have turned into a war zone.

Modern Marvels (9 p.m., History) – The Panama Canal is thought to be the 7th wonder of the modern world, but now to fit the worlds’ growing fleet of super ships, the Canal is getting completely revamped. The series takes a look inside the billion dollar Panama Canal Expansion Project.

Meet the Polka Kings (9:30 p.m., Reelz) – A preview of a new reality show following The Chardon Polka band’s year of road trips and musical triumphs.

New Girls on the Block (10 p.m., Discovery Life) – The premiere of a new series following a group of women from Kansas City, Mo., who all happen to be transgender. In the first episode, Chloe’s best friend moves away and Jaime deals with discrimination when entering a triathlon.
