Larry Kramer in Love and Anger (9 p.m., HBO) – The television debut of a new documentary from Jean Carlomusto examining the life of Larry Kramer, playwright (“The Normal Heart”), author and gay rights activist.

Becoming Us (9 p.m., ABC Family) Carly tries to learn why Ben is struggling in school.

The Overnighters (10 p.m., UNC-TV) – This POV doc looks at a church converted into housing for hundreds of job-seekers, despite the congregation’s objections.

Teen Wolf (10 p.m., MTV) – Season 5 opens with Scott and his pack challenged by the arrival of a new enemy.

The Whispers (10 p.m., ABC) – Claire finally talks to Sean, who can’t remember her or anything about his past.

Murder in the First (10 p.m., TNT) – Raffi worries that Hildi’s investigation of the grow house murder will impact her case.

The Making of the Mob: New York (10 p.m., AMC) – Lucky Luciano takes over the mob, and the Five Families are organized.
