Lopez (10 p.m., TV Land) – George Lopez stars in a new half-hour comedy playing a version of himself. The show explores how he struggles to fit in with the working class Latino community from which he came, while enjoying his current celebrity lifestyle. In the opener, George’s enemies attend a fundraiser where he will be auctioned off.

Heartbeat (8 p.m., NBC) – Alex seeks to test new technology on a young man who is only able to speak backward.

Empire (9 p.m., Fox) – The second season resumes after a winter break, and Lucious declares he will do anything to regain his power – but Cookie has her own ideas. Also, a major tragedy changes the lives of the Lyon family.

Hap and Leonard (10 p.m., Sundance) – Soldier and Angel force Leonard to dig up the money, but a surprise awaits them.

TED Talks (10 p.m., UNC-TV) – The first episode of this new series features speakers discussing the future of nanotechnology, life beyond Earth and the science of light.

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (10 p.m., CBS) – The team heads to Cairo when a former U.S. serviceman is killed in a gas attack and his friend goes missing.
