Barbara McKay marks 38 years of appearances on WBTV

When Barbara McKay made an appearance on WBTV’s (Channel 3) “Morning Break” last month, it marked 38 years she’d been appearing on the station, first in cooking segments for the old “Top O’ The Day” show with C.J. Underwood and Mike Collins, later on her own “Close to Home” show and for the last 15 years in guest visits. WBTV rebuilt a kitchen this summer for “Morning Break” on the spot of the old kitchen used by Betty Feezor and McKay in earlier years. …

As new owner Entercom took over WBT-AM (1110) this month, Matt Hanlon was named market manager. Hanlon most recently served as president of Citadel Broadcasting where he managed the Midwest region of 85 radio stations. Hanlon will also oversee the other Entercom stations in Charlotte, WLNK-FM (“Link” 107.9) and WFNZ-AM (“Fan” 610). He succeeds Rick Feinblatt, who left on the last day of Beasley’s operating the station. …

Kimberly Eller joins WBTV (Channel 3) as executive producer from the CBS affiliate in Roanoke, Va. … Retired Charlotte Observer reporter Joseph DePriest of Cramerton was honored by Gardner-Webb University as a distinguished alumnus. …

Brian Ross, ABC News’ chief investigative correspondent, will be guest speaker Saturday for the Radio Television Digital News Association awards luncheon at the Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway. … Karen Adams, who served as general manager of WJZY (Channel 46) and WMYT (Channel 55) after Fox Television Stations took over the stations in 2013, died last week at age 62 at her home in Waynesville after a short illness. Before her two years in Charlotte, she was longtime general manager of the Fox affiliate in High Point, where she started as camera operator out of college in 1976.
