Media Movers: WCNC names new anchor to replace Dave Wagner

Fred Shropshire, formerly of Durham’s WTVD (Channel 11), is joining WCNC (Channel 36) this month as anchor, replacing Dave Wagner.

WCNC (Channel 36) has named Fred Shropshire, most recently at the ABC affiliate in Durham, to replace anchor Dave Wagner, who left last week after seven years when his contract was not renewed. Shropshire, who will go on the air in about two weeks, will anchor the key 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts, said WCNC president Deborah Collura. After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill, Shropshire began his career at the ABC affiliate in New Bern, later moving on to Winston-Salem and Chicago. No decision has yet been made on who will host WCNC’s Sunday morning public affairs show, “Flashpoint,” that Wagner launched in 2007, but the show will continue, said news director Matt King. …

WJZY (Channel 46) adds Joshua Sims as sports reporter and anchor. He comes from the ABC affiliate in Albany, N.Y. He is a graduate of Villanova University and has a masters degree in broadcasting from Syracuse University. … Departing Fox Charlotte is Kacie Hollins, who joined the station last year from a sports network in Toronto. …

With Cortney Hicks taking over afternoon drive time at WBAV-FM (“V” 101.9), Artie Goins moves to middays, replacing Chirl Patterson, better known as Chirl Girl, who left the station in March. Goins’ former partner, Derrick Jacobs, better known as Fly Ty, continues to fill in part-time at WBAV.
