Media Movers: Sonja Gantt says reprise of Rae Carruth case might be most memorable story

In looking over her 19 years at WCNC (Channel 36), Sonja Gantt says probably the standout story was “Forgiveness and Regret: The Rae Carruth Case 10 Years Later,” in which Saundra Adams, raising her grandson Chancellor Lee, told how she came to forgive former Panther Rae Carruth in the death of her daughter, Cherica Adams. “Her message of forgiveness was so powerful,” says Gantt. “I remember hearing her and wondering as a journalist if I could tell this story with the power she had.” Gantt is leaving the anchor desk in January to take over as executive director of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools Foundation. …

WSOC (Channel 9) finishes its anchor reassignments. John Paul will anchor the morning newscasts, replacing Allison Latos, who moved up to the 10 p.m. anchor desk, and he will continue doing the 7 a.m. newscast on sister station WAXN (Channel 64). … Liz Foster, who has been filling in on Channel 9’s weekend evening newscasts since the departure of Eric Philips, gets the assignment permanently. Both Paul and Foster arrived at WSOC this year. …

Good “Get”: Morgan Fogarty lands press-shy pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation Church for an interview on her “The Get” segment scheduled to air on Nov. 10’s WCCB (Channel 18) 10 p.m. newscast. …

McArthur Fleming Jr. of Charlotte will appear on “The Price Is Right,” 11 a.m. Wednesday, Channel 3. … “I Love Kellie Pickler,” a reality show starring Albemarle native Kellie Pickler and husband of four years, Kyle Jacobs, debuts 10 p.m. Thursday on CMT. …
