Davidson men’s basketball game Wednesday night against Duquesne will be televised on WMYT (Channel 55) as part of a package of three games acquired by the Fox-owned station.

WMYT will also carry Davidson’s Atlantic 10 Conference games against George Mason on Saturday and against LaSalle Feb. 10. All games start at 7 p.m.

Davidson enters Wednesday’s game at 8-4 in overall play (0-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference).

“We look forward to showcasing Davidson College and our basketball program,” said Scott Applegate, Davidson’s associate athletic director.

Kieran Clarke, general manager of WMYT and sister-station WJZY (Channel 46), said the move, negotiated in the last three weeks, is part of an overall strategy to increase local sports programming on Channel 55, which already carries some ACC basketball.

Clarke said that he hopes to increase the number of Charlotte Knights games the station broadcasts this summer and is looking to find other sports the station can carry year-round.

“We want to make WMYT into a station that has more exposure to sports,” said Clarke, who took the helm of the two Fox stations in September. “We want to tap into the enthusiastic sports market.”
