Matt Harris joins WSOC (Channel 9) in September as reporter and sports anchor replacing Lawrence Gilligan who left in June. Harris comes from the CBS affiliate in Shreveport, La. He is a graduate of UNC-Wilmington with a master’s degree from Syracuse University. …

Beth Troutman is in Rio to cover the Olympics for WCNC (Channel 36). WCNC has imported five tons of sand to its studios off Billy Graham Parkway to make a beach-themed news set. … Weekend anchor Erika Hayes departs from WCNC. …

Jeff Taylor joins WJZY (Channel 46) as digital journalist from the NASCAR show “Raceline.” A Richmond, Va., native, he went to Randolph-Macon College. … An independent documentary is in the works about the storied Double Door Inn, which is set to close in January. Behind the venture are filmmaker Kim Brattain, a former anchor at WSOC, Rick Fitts at Kim Brattain Media who was a producer at WTVI (Channel 42), Chuck Bludsworth, president and creative director at Civilized Films; and Charlotte media veteran Jay Ahuja.
