Jeb Bush lands Kissinger’s backing, report says

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger is said to be the “star attraction” at a lunch Thursday hosted by the former Florida governor’s political action committee, The New York Observer reports.

Bush was to raise money on Wall Street Wednesday at what Politico called an “eye-popping $100,000 per-ticket Park Avenue event hosted by private equity mogul Henry Kravis and his wife.”

But the Observer notes that the Thursday event “might send the clearest signal yet of Jeb Bush’s dominance of the Republican establishment.” It quotes two sources, including one inside the Bush organization, as saying that Kissinger will appear at the lunch hosted by Right to Rise, at which Bush will also appear.

“In addition to bolstering Mr. Bush’s momentum, his strong push into the tri-state area will likely add to a developing narrative that Northeast Republicans are deserting New Jersey Governor Chris Christie just as he gears up to launch his own presidential bid,” the Observer writes.

The Sunlight Foundation notes the fundraisers are among a “flurry” of fundraisers for the potential challenger for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. Even his son is getting into the act: Jeb Bush Jr. was the main attraction at a D.C. “young professionals event,” that carried a $50 admission price.
