Sunny skies are forecast for Thursday, Friday and the weekend in the Charlotte region, but so are rapidly falling temperatures and, by Monday night, a good chance of freezing rain and sleet.
Thursday’s high is expected to hit 49 degrees, although wind gusts as high as 33 mph also are expected.
Thursday night’s temperature will fall to about 21 degrees, while Friday’s high will reach only about 40, according to the National Weather Service.
While temperatures will climb to about 48 on Saturday, wind gusts as high as 26 mph are expected. And Sunday’s high will hit only 32 degrees, according to the latest forecasts.
Monday will remain sunny, with a high near 40, but a 40 percent chance of rain, freezing rain and sleet is in store for Monday night.
Rain, freezing rain and sleet also are likely on Tuesday, although temperatures will climb that day into the high 40s. The chance of precipitation stands at 70 percent.
On Wednesday, the chance of rain and snow stands at 50 percent. If snow does fall, it would be the first time all winter for Charlotte.
