Chiquita leases about 130,000 square feet of space – six floors – of the NASCAR Plaza office tower at E. Stonewall and S. Caldwell streets uptown. That’s about a quarter of the building.
The office tower is owned by Parkway Properties. Chiquita’s lease runs through 2025. According to research firm Karnes, the uptown submarket had an 11 percent vacancy rate late last year, the third-lowest in the city.
Chris Schaaf, JLL executive vice president, said the space should be desirable because it’s the largest block of newly built, Class A office space uptown. The space could appeal to a large company contemplating a relocation, he said.
“This is the largest block in a building of this age,” said Schaaf, who is marketing the space along with Chase Monroe. “It could be used as a recruiting tool.”
Chiquita is relocating its headquarters from Charlotte following its acquisition by a pair of Brazilian firms.
