A Charlotte woman performed five dental procedures over five years on a man who in January tipped off the state to illegal dentistry in the woman’s home in the Steele Creek Apartments off South Tryon Street, according to a State Bureau of Investigation search warrant.
Susana Larreta Peralta, 61, was arrested Feb. 5 and charged with practicing dentistry in her apartment without a license. The arrest followed a two-week investigation. Agents used the warrant to seize dental tools and instruments from the apartment.
The informant notified the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners in January about Peralta, according to the warrant. The warrant doesn’t say why the informant came forward after so long.
The man said he received teeth cleanings and filling replacements and repairs, according to the warrant.
Peralta performed the procedures in her living room, with clients in a recliner, according to the warrant. She accepted only cash, the informant said.
The informant said Peralta used a syringe to inject him with numbing medicine and provided the informant with individual packets of antibiotics.
Authorities also charged Peralta with obtaining a prescription drug without a prescription and dispensing a prescription drug without a permit.
Peralta was released from the Mecklenburg County jail on $5,000 bail and must appear in Mecklenburg County District Court on April 7.
